A great book on the Russian Far East and the Amur tiger
When I was traveling in the Russian Far East this summer. I read The Tiger, a non-fiction book by John Vaillant, It’s a well-written and thoroughly researched account of a man-eating tiger that killed two Russians near Krasny Yar a few years ago. One of Russians was a poacher. Svetlana knew many of the people mentioned in the book, and I had the chance to interview a couple of them. I recommend it highly.

This Wednesday at 8 p.m on PBS, the program NATURE will have an episode about the Amur Tiger.

Conservation ecologist Chris Morgan embarks on a challenge that will fulfill a lifelong dream — to find and film a Siberian tiger living wild and free in Russia’s far eastern forests. To help him, Morgan turns to Korean cameraman Sooyong Park, the first individual ever to film Siberian tigers in the wild.
